SurroundedByGrass is the personal blog of a (currently) 18 year old female dairy farmer, by the name of Jana. It was opened in June 2009, and was purchased on GoDaddy, but is now over at NameCheap.
What with the name?
Originally, this website was going to be used for the sole purpose of writing about the daily experiences of my new job being on a dairy farm. I was going to call it “FarmerGirl”, but it occurred to me that it sounds rather girlish. Something which I am not. So sitting at my lap top, looking around for bright ideas. And I realized I was surrounded by grass. All around me, my new life, my new home, everything. I was always going to be surrounded by grass. I think the name says it all.
The blog became more of a personal blog, then a work journal. As I came to terms with the fact that 1) I would never be “awesome” at “graphics”. and 2) Graphics are gay anyway. I kind grew up. So I started personal blogging here. Surroundedbygrass became my entire life story. Well, from June 2009.
Web History
Forever ago1, I used to co-run a Piczo website with an old friend of mine. There was nothing to it. We copy + pasted lyrics we liked, put awesome videos on there2, and was just a bullshit website all together. I have no idea what is was called. It was dumb, and stupid, but that’s where I started with HTML / CSS.
After that awesome experience, I went to Bebo, and started “editing images”. Of celebs, of people, of general landscape photos etc. I was the best. OK I’m all shit. I got hardly any attention. I got fucked off. And /rage quit’d.3 I used to use my name as a “Signature” on my great “edits”, but I soon realized that was a bit to personal. So an online friend4 created BlueRageDesigns. I freaking love the name. I had 2 domain5, and hard coded everything myself, I then switched to FanUpdate. Yay for me. I used those sites to “showcase” my awesome edits. Write shitter blogs, and hosted my tuts there. My boyfriend hosted me, and bought both domain.
So after I quit editing and came to my senses, read a few HTML / CSS books, and after moving down the line, getting my dream job etc, this website was born. I refused to hardcode again. And here I am with a WordPress run blog. YAY.
