The day I failed my licence.

So it was the 8/07/09, and I sat my restricted license. I failed. Here are the events leading up to this day. And the reasons why I failed.

  • I drove into town, doing fine, great parallel parking etc, great turning corners, going around the round-a-bouts, everything.
  • I had to hire a car because I had recently dented mine, which apparently made it “Un-unwarrantable”. So the test man most likely wouldn’t accept it. So I hired a car.
  • I had a “test” test in that hired car, with a driving instructor. The cars gears where very close together, where as mine are far apart, so that took some getting used to. However, the driving instructor said I would pass for sure. Just do what he said.
  • What he said contradicted what I had been taught already, but he said he knew what he was doing. One of them was “You don’t have to move your whole head to look out the mirrors, just move your eyes”. Which I usually just move my eyes, but my mum told me for the test man I have to move my head. My mum was correct.

The test;

  • I stalled the first time I turned the car on. I have a feeling that the driving instructor had his foot on the clutch a little as I was driving with him, (as it was a duel controlled car). Hence makingĀ  me think the clutch was A LOT easier then mine. So I stalled a couple of times tbh.
  • I drove up a hill in 4th gear, because I couldn’t hear the gears for loud traffic. It was in forth because the gears are so close together it seemed to slip into the wrong gears.
  • I was flusted a lot after the first time I stalled. It pretty much screwed up the whole test.
  • I did what the driver TEACHER said and only looked with my eyes. Turns out the test drive man couldn’t see me looking. Hence why I said earlier about my mum being correct. When you sit your test. Physically move your head.
  • The arrorws on the road ended before where he wanted me to turn. So I got extremely confused because the last arrow pointed to a drive that was to “Pull out” when I wanted to “Pull in”. Again my fault.
  • I couldn’t decide at a lot of places wheater or not to have the hand break on. He failed me for that. Not sure why. I didn’t roll backwards once. Even an inch.

And those are the main reasons why I failed. I was really sad and cut up about it. I cried. Sad perhaps yes, but I live in the middle of no where and I really hate depending on other people for driving me around to shop etc.

What made my car not warrentable? Long story short, I hit a gravel road going to fast. Way to fast. Popped a tire, and dented the “Sill” on the underside of my car. Quite badly

So yes. My sad week. A crash and a failed driving test. Suck.

However, my aunt DID leave my car here. So I can practice more, (although in that car, I can drive fine). And even drive my car to do my shopping…. as long as my next door neighbor comes with.

Next time I think all I must do is not get flustered the first 2 mins, and I’ll be set. :)
